Delhi airport gets 1st batch of transshipment cargo from Bangladesh

The Delhi International Airport (DIAL) recently received the first batch of transshipment cargo from Bangladesh on its way to Spain. This follows Delhi Airport receiving approval from the Indian government allowing DIAL, a subsidiary of GMR Airports Infrastructure (GIL), to serve as a transshipment hub between Bangladesh and other global destinations for export cargo.

The transshipment cargo from Bangladesh will reach Delhi via the Benapole-Petrapol borders.

The decision will reduce the shipment cost significantly for manufacturers in Bangladesh and raise the daily export via New Delhi of international cargo, including readymade garments, handloom, footwear, leather products, jute products and pharmaceuticals.

As Bangladesh manufacturers import a lot of raw materials, including threads, textiles, jute and leather, from India, boost in their exports will result in a rise in demand for Indian raw materials in that country, according to Indian media reports.

To ensure ease of doing business, DIAL has created a special truck docking facility and a dedicated X-ray area for the swift transfer of cargo to their outbound locations.
