March 21, 2009 (India)

The Directorate of Handlooms, Handicrafts and Silk in the ministry of industry has hit upon a ambitious scheme to extend vocational training in producing handicrafts to school students of Jharkhand state.

This scheme will be extended to 30,000 students of over 196 Kasturba Gandhi schools in the state. Experts from the Directorate will provide to the students for a period of 1-2 hours as and when free time is available.

The objective is to empower these students financially along with providing them education. This endeavour of the Directorate is exemplary since, it will help the students earn money, while continuing with their education.

This will also serve the purpose of ensuring that students do not drop off midway in their schooling years, since the lure of earning money will be very strong along with getting a decent education.
