EU approves Brexit deal, UK parliament may vote on Dec 12

The European Union (EU) recently approved an agreement on the British withdrawal and future ties. Insisting that the ‘best and only deal possible’ paves the way for an ‘orderly withdrawal', 27 EU leaders gave it their approval after less than an hour's discussion following 20 months of negotiations. The deal now needs to be approved by the British Parliament.
The British Parliament is expected to vote on the deal on December 12. The Labour Party, the Lib Dems, the Scottish National Party, the Democratic Unionist Party and many Conservative MPs are expected to vote against it.
Speaking in Brussels, British Prime Minister Theresa May urged all voters to unite behind the agreement, insisting that the British public do not want to spend any more time arguing about Brexit.
The United Kingdom is scheduled to leave the EU on 29 March 2019. The negotiations began in March 2017.
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said anyone in Britain who thought the bloc might offer improved terms if MPs rejected the deal would be disappointed.
May said the agreement would end freedom of movement ‘in full and once and for all’, protect the constitutional integrity of the United Kingdom and ensure a return to ‘laws being made in our country by democratically elected politicians interpreted and enforced by British courts’, according to European media reports.
