Global trade of synthetic staple fibres on rise

The global export of synthetic staple fibres, not carded, combed, or otherwise processed for spinning of polyvinyl chloride rose 15.78 per cent from $594.21 million in 2017 to $688.00 million in 2019. Total exports surged 6.60 per cent in 2019 over the previous year and is expected to rise to $857.15 million in 2022 with a rate of 24.59 per cent from 2019.

The global import value of synthetic staple fibres of polyvinyl chloride was $700.67 million in 2017, which jumped 9.14 per cent to $764.74 million in 2019. Total imports came down 2.14 per cent in 2019 over the previous year and is expected to blown-up to $872.01 million in 2022 with a rate of 14.03 per cent from 2019, according to Fibre2Fashion's market analysis tool TexPro.

Japan ($140.07 million), China ($126.13 million), South Korea ($111.59 million), Taiwan ($97.67 million) and Germany ($50.51 million) were the key exporters of synthetic staple fibres of acrylic or modacrylic across the globe in 2019, together comprising 76.45 per cent of total export. These were followed by Thailand ($41.72 million), US ($32.27 million) and Austria ($24.82 million).

From 2016 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export value, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by South Korea (116.15 per cent), Taiwan (31.89 per cent), and China (12.76 per cent).

China ($261.58 million), Italy ($56.90 million) and Germany ($50.46 million) were the key importers of synthetic staple fibres of acrylic or modacrylic across the globe in 2019, together comprising 48.24 per cent of total import. These were followed by UK ($48.16 million), Brazil ($41.79 million) and US ($35.65 million).

From 2016 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of import value, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Italy (63.61 per cent), China (56.21 per cent) and Germany (19.52 per cent).
