India's 2013-14 cotton yarn exports at $4.7bn: Texprocil

The exports of cotton yarn from India in fiscal year 2013-14 are likely to be around 1.35 billion kg worth US$ 4.7 billion, according to a study by the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council of India (Texprocil), reports Business Standard quoting PTI.

India exported 1.082 billion kg of cotton yarn valued at $3.75 billion in April-January 2013-14 period, Texprocil data shows.

The study says that high quality is ensuring firm orders for Indian yarn from international markets. Is sees the country’s cotton yarn exports to meet target, despite high raw cotton prices and seasonal fluctuations generally witnessed in April each year.

It estimates India yarn exports for fiscal year 2013-14 that ended on March 31 at around 1.35 million kg valued at $4.7 billion.

The price of Indian cotton yarn is still very much lower than the domestic yarn prices in China, the major importer of Indian cotton and cotton yarn.

However, cotton yarn exports from India fell in 2014, as in the previous three years, owing to temporary high prices during the period and high year-end exports.

Texprocil is the international face of cotton textiles from India. It promotes exports of raw cotton, cotton yarns and blended yarns (50% or more cotton) as well as grey and processed yarn (doubled, gassed, mercerized, dyed), woven and knitted fabrics (grey and processed), home textiles (bed linen, kitchen linen, bath towels and other linen), and technical textiles (protective, performance, medical and geo textiles).
