| Wafarmers to help farmers find sufficient feed for sheep | | July 23, 2008 (Australia) |  |
 The Western Australian Farmers Federation (Inc.) (WAFarmers) has announced that it will establish a livestock agistment register to assist some of the States farmers who, through a lack of rainfall, are struggling to provide sufficient feed for their livestock.
WAFarmers Esperance/Ravensthorpe Zone President, Marg Agnew, noted that, while many areas of the States agricultural area had, and continue to, receive encouraging rainfall, other areas are doing it tough.
“The Esperance/Ravensthorpe region is one of the areas where farmers have noted challenges in finding sufficient feed for their livestock, particularly for sheep.”
“The welfare of livestock is at the forefront of all farmers minds, and in this incidence, it is clear that some farmers have identified a need to agist livestock to areas where there has been more rainfall and thus feed.”
Farmers who have livestock requiring agistment due to a lack of feed, and farmers that are willing to accept agisted livestock, are encouraged to contact WAFarmers to register their details.
“WAFarmers will continue to monitor the progression of the season very carefully, welcome feedback from members, and will maintain an open dialogue with the Government on the situation,” concluded Mrs Agnew.
Agistment is the process of letting another farmer’s livestock graze on your land, usually for a fee.
