Laguna Blue has launched soft, fluffy, patterned microfibre Laguna Blue Swim beach-sized towels for swim season. The towel is being endorsed by Olympic gold medal swimmer Summer Sanders. Tests show that antibiotic-resistant MRSA bacteria stick to clean cotton towels 75 per cent more often in comparison to only 0.25 per cent of the time with microfibre.

Laguna Blue, launched to provide safe MRSA resistant towels directly to consumers, is a sister company of Enviro-Linen which for 34 years has been providing commercial entities from nursing home to hotels with safer linens and medical grade scrubs to health practitioners. Laguna Blue is a line of super soft plush bacteria-resistant towels for home and swim.

Laguna Blue microfibre towels are 99.8 per cent effective in preventing the spread of germs and diseases, dry 50 per cent faster, and absorb more water than cotton. The Laguna Blue Swim towels are available in two designs - a blue and white contemporary water drop pattern and a classic blue and white cabana stripe.

According to the National Institutes of Health, the antibiotic-resistant MRSA bacteria kill more people than HIV. A laboratory test conducted by Dr. Murray Cohen, science advisor, compared cotton to microfibre towels as a bacteria transfer mechanism. The test showed that MRSA sticks to clean cotton towels 75 per cent more often in comparison to only 0.25 per cent of the time with microfibre.

Laguna Blue's inspiration came about when one of the co-owners, Kenny Perry, contracted a MRSA infection from a gym towel that became so serious doctors recommended his leg be amputated. Together with Bert Rubinsky, CEO, their company is fully committed to preventing the spread of bacteria. "Our companies exist to keep humans healthy. Laguna Blue exists to keep people healthy and free of harmful bacteria when using towels at home, the pool, in hospitals, hotels and gyms."

"In a world where natural seems like a good thing, it may seem counter intuitive to say that cotton can be dangerous. Because it takes such a long time to dry and towels are often left damp on locker room, shower floors and on wet pool decks, they breed bacteria. Sadly, no matter how hot the water, how warm the dryer or how clean the towels appear to be, MRSA lives on organic materials and towels are an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Laguna Blue's wonderfully soft and fluffy microfibre was created to provide consumers with an eco-friendly towel that is also safe," said president, Debbie Wideroe.

Olympic gold medal swimmer Summer Sanders says: "I have a close relationship with my towels. I've suffered three horrible staph infections; one that took three different doses of antibiotics to finally kill. This towel will keep you from wondering what locker room and pool deck germs you just brought into your gym bag and back home." (SV)
