Lately, Malaysia-based Ramatex has been facing serious allegations of unhealthy working conditions for the labourers combined with mistreatment to the workers in the form of forced overtime and poor salary.
Besides, recent claims from environmental organizations that their production unit is rapidly contaminating the ground water, has proved to be a significant blow.
Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (NAFAU) alongwith National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) set out protest march infront of the company gates, demanding increased hourly wages, year-end bonus, monthly transport and lodging allowance for all the employees.
Both organizations consider their efforts to be quite successful as atleast the Ramatex administrators were compelled to come out and negotiate.
