Mitsubishi Chemical Corp has revealed that its Kamisu-shi No.2 ethylene plant in Ibaraki prefecture near Tokyo caught fire today.
Company source told Fibre2fashion that the fire was not yet completely under control. There were four people in the plant at the time of fire and they are reported missing.
The source said that this fire is expected to have massive impact on the production.
The Kashima plant, which consists of two units, can produce up to 926,000 tonnes of ethylene per year, with the No.2 unit contributing 516,000 tons.
However, insider believed that operations would be normalized within about 10 days.
No exact information regarding expected damage was available.
