Textile park to come up in Punjab

The Punjab government has identified an area of 1,700 acres in Bathinda, Mansa and Ferozepur districts of the Malwa region in State to set up a textile park. The conceptual plan for the park has been approved and the government has already started receiving proposals from multinational textile companies for setting up integrated textile plants.

The park would have world class facilities like 24-hour power and water supply, other than the usual benefits given by the government. The cotton of the Malwa region is supposed to be one of the best in the world and hence, the textile park would be able to procure it directly from the local market.

When fully functional, the park would employ nearly 70,000 people that would include both skilled and unskilled. Most of these jobs, however, will go to girls and women.

The State government has assured full support to the textile park. In order to attract good textile factories, the State's Department of Industries has been directed to market the idea of textile park by organizing road shows in some of the textile and other cities in India, including Ahmedabad, Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi.
