The United States Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel (USA-ITA) will host a one-day symposium on U.S. trade policy on July 20, 2011, in New York City, featuring Obama Administration officials as well as industry experts and USA-ITA leadership and counsels.

“U.S. Trade Policy: What's New and What's Next” will include discussions on the Administration's textile and trade policy agenda, as well as customs, duty-free benefits and the pending free trade agreements, transportation, sourcing, cotton importing preferences, and more.

The day's confirmed Administration speakers include: Kim Glas, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Textiles and Apparel at the Department of Commerce Office for Textiles and Apparel; Gail Strickler, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Textiles at USTR; and, a representative from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of International Trade.

“This is a dynamic year for trade policy, with debates on the pending Free Trade Agreements, the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, and the legislative proposals for new import duty reductions, to name a few,” says Julia K. Hughes, President of USA-ITA and featured speaker at the July 20 event. “We are excited to bring the policymakers and industry insiders to New York to explain to trade, sourcing, compliance, and logistics executives how these changes will affect the textile and apparel importing industry.”

The event will take place on Wednesday, July 20, from approximately 9:00am to 4:30pm at the New York Athletic Club at 180 Central Park South, New York, NY, 10019. The event will include lunch and will be followed by a reception from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the offices of Squire Sanders & Dempsey at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY, 10112.
