Chinese yarn output rises 8.6 pc

Yarn output in China registered an 8.6 percent year-on-year increase in May 2011, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. China produced 2.408 million tons of yarn in May, taking the total production during January-May 2011 to 10.803 million tons, showing a year-on-year increase of 10.1 percent.

During the current cotton year (September 2010-August 2011), China's cotton production during the first nine months totaled 20.792 million tons, which is a y-o-y rise of 10.3 percent.

The average prices of both 32 cotton carded yarn as well as polyester staple fibre decreased in May compared to the previous month. The average price of 32 cotton carded yarn during May 2011 was 33,793 Yuan/ton, which was 6.4 percent or 2312 Yuan/ton less than the average price in April.

Similarly, the average price of polyester staple fibre during May was 12,986 Yuan/ton, which was 6.9 percent or 963 Yuan/ton lower than the earlier month.
