CARE to collect revenue for its members under new law
Jul '11
July 1st, the day California AB 2398, the nation's first carpet-specific recycling law, goes into effect. Carpet America Recovery Effort Executive Director Georgina Sikorski says everyone associated with CARE has spent recent days and weeks busy assisting carpet manufacturers, retailers and dealers to prepare for the law's requirements.

As of July 1st, all carpet sold or shipped into California must include a $0.05/square yard assessment. The funds raised from this assessment will be used to increase the amount of carpet that is diverted and recycled from California landfills. CARE is the carpet stewardship organization for AB 2398.

"Everyone involved in the task of communicating the news about AB 2398 has worked tirelessly. We've developed brochures and posters, written articles, placed ads in magazines, done webinars, conducted interviews with the press - everything we could think of to educate different audiences about what they need to do to comply with this new law," said Georgina Sikorski, CARE Executive Director.

"Still, both CARE Operations Manager Anthony Cline and I are expecting to receive additional calls from people needing help on what they are supposed to do."
