Uzbek cotton supply to Belarus was among the issues discussed at a meeting between Uzbekistan's First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade, Akmal Kamalov and Igor Sokol, Belarusian Ambassador to Uzbekistan.

To strengthen Belarusian-Uzbek bilateral trade and economic cooperation, it was agreed to hold a meeting of the joint inter-governmental commission in 2011 itself. Trade between the two countries during the first three months of 2011 has increased to US$ 43.2 million, a rise of 51.6 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2010.

With an annual raw cotton production of about 3.5 million tons, Uzbekistan is the sixth largest cotton producer in the world.

The country produces 1-1.2 million tons of cotton fibre a year, and in 2010 Uzbekistan exported more than 600,000 tons, making it the second largest exporter of cotton fibre in the world.

The main countries to which Uzbekistan exports cotton are Bangladesh, China, India, Russia, South Korea, and United Arab Emirates.
