Mohawk Industries, a leader in floor coverings announced that it would shut down its spun yarn production facility in Laurel Hill, North Carolina.
The Calhoun – Georgia based major carpet and rug producer cited a decline in demand for spun yarn carpets and a rise in demand for filament yarn based carpets.
It also added that, it has been necessitated to close down the plant in order to realign production with demand.
The plant which is expected to close down in August in a phased manner will result in a loss of 197 jobs.
