Cotton imports plunge in June, reflects fall in usage

China's cotton imports registered 120,000 tons in June 2011, down by 24,600 tons, or a reduction of 16.98 percent from the previous month, and down 57,200 tons, a fall of 32.29 percent from the same time last year, according to Chinese customs statistics.
From September 2010, the beginning of the Chinese cotton marketing season to June 2011, China's total cotton imports reached 2.212 million tons, an increase of 116,000 tons or 5.54 percent year on year.
From January to June 2011, China's total cotton imports fetched 1.327 million tons, down 218,000 tons or 14.12 percent year on year, clearly reflecting the decline in domestic cotton consumption.
