The US had earlier in December 2010, withdrawn a scheme which allowed small and medium enterprises cum exporters from India to export their products duty free to the markets of the US.

The SMEs in the textile sector particularly from the handicraft sector like producers of textile floor coverings felt the immediate impact of this decision.

Exporters are clamouring the Indian government to lobby with the US administration to restore the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) scheme.
