The Punjab government would introduce an all-inclusive incentive package for textile sector in the State, to attract investments for establishment of integrated textiles parks.

State Industry Minister Tikshan Sud said under the package, the State has resolved to subsidise 50 percent market fee, infrastructure cess and rural development fund on cotton purchase for 10 years from the date on which the textile units become operational.

The Minister said that textile parks that have integrated production facilities, i.e. which can support processing from cotton to garments are being established in districts of Mansa, Mukatsar, Bhatinda, Faridkot, Sangrur, Firozpur and Barnala, at a capital investment of around Rs. 2.5 billion.

He further said that this special incentive would draw considerable investment to the textile industry and would even ensure good returns for cotton cultivators.

The State government would also allow the textile project promoter to use 10 percent of the land for commercial use without charging any additional development charges, license fee, or payment for change of land use.

The Minister even stated that the government, for the purpose, has already marked huge land plots in Mansa, Firozpur and Bhatinda districts, which could be bought by the companies willing to set up textile parks in the State.
