Bodoland will be the theme for the Indian handicrafts expo to be held at Thimpu in Bhutan during September 16-20, 2011. The responsibility of organising this thematic Indian handicrafts expo has been assigned to the Bodoland Regional Apex Weavers & Artisans Co-operative Federation Ltd (BRAWFED).
BRAWFED Chairperson Malati Narzary and Director N Rana Patgiri said that their Federation will organize the expo in association with the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI). The expo is being sponsored by the Development Commissioner for Handicrafts, Government of India, under the Ministry of Textiles.
At the expo, the artisans and sellers from the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), North-eastern region and other parts of India would also get a chance to be a part of a mega cultural event which would form a part of inaugural ceremony.
The event would comprise cultural shows highlighting Indian culture particularly that of Bodoland and Assam. Besides, fashion shows showcasing Indian handloom and handicrafts and even a buyer-seller meet would also be held during the event.
About 50 stalls will be set up at the expo to extend a platform to artisans and sellers to exhibit their products. The exhibition is expected to develop a brand image for India's handicrafts in the global market, and enhance export of handicraft items from Bodoland and other North-eastern States.
Bodoland handloom and handicraft items have great demand in the world markets, and the expo is likely to help the weavers, artisans and craftsmen to reap positive gains and would even present them with future opportunities, the BRAWFED officials said.
