For the first time since Pakistan became independent in 1947, cotton season in Punjab province has begun earlier than Sindh. This can be said because more than 85 ginning units have started functioning in Punjab compared to just 20 in the Sindh.
Thus, over 100 ginning mills have started operations in the month of July, which is again a record.
Cotton harvesting has begun a couple of months earlier than usual in Arif wala, Bahawalnagar, Chichawatni, Faqirwali, Haroonabad, Hasilpur, Kabirwala, Khanewal, Mian Chunnu, Pakpattan, Rahimyarkhan, Sahiwal, Sargodha and Toba Tek singh.
Besides, there is a change in cotton sowing trend in Punjab. Since cultivators are sowing Bt cotton seed in the beginning of the year, it may lead to a decline in wheat production.
