Expansion of SSM Industries in Spring City

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty joined with local Rhea County officials to announce a $3 million expansion of SSM Industries in Spring City, Tenn. The expansion will add an additional 45,000 square feet to the company's manufacturing facility and create 13 new jobs initially, with plans to expand to a projected 25 employees.
“SSM Industries has a long-standing reputation as a Tennessee company that builds strong relationships with its employees and is a good place to work,” said Governor Haslam. “I congratulate SSM Industries on their success and thank them for their continued support in our state and the additional jobs created in Spring City.”
“Under Governor Haslam's Jobs4TN plan, we have intensified our economic development efforts surrounding existing Tennessee companies, as they are by far the major job creators in the state and the driving force behind growing our economy,” said Commissioner Hagerty. “SSM Industries expansion is evidence of this, and we are grateful to our local partners for making this project happen.”
SSM Industries is a textile manufacturing company specializing in the development and manufacture of flame resistant, cut resistant and thermal fabrics. SSM fabrics are used by the United States military as well as in industries such as fire and rescue, auto racing and gas and electric utility. This expansion will enable SSM Industries to create specialized yarns to enhance its offering of highly technical protective fabrics.
“This expansion will take SSM Industries to the next level in the textile manufacturing industry, and we are excited about the opportunities this expansion will allow us,” said Phil Chandler, SSM Industries vice president of development. “I am grateful for the continued support from state and local officials and look forward to growing our company in Spring City.”

"I am pleased SSM Industries is expanding and creating jobs," said Raymond Walker, Rhea Economic & Tourism Council director.
"I am glad to see everyone working together to bring much needed jobs to Rhea County," said George Thacker, Rhea County executive.
Founded in 1982 by Bill Hilleary, SSM Industries currently employs 90 people and is located at 211 Ellis Avenue.
