Peruvian handicrafts mainly exported to South America

South American countries have become the major destination for Peruvian handicrafts and they now account for 48 percent of total Peruvian handicraft exports, according to Peru's Export and Tourism Promotion Board (Promperu). The US, which accounts for ten percent of Peruvian handicraft exports, and the European Union are the other destinations.
The exports of Peruvian handicrafts comprising textiles, repousse leather, accessories and other items are expected to touch US$ 88 million this year, with textile craftwork alone accounting for US$ 33 million.
Peruvian handicraft industry employs over 200,000 artisans, mainly in Junin, Puno, Lima, Ayacucho, Piura, Cusco and Huancavelica regions.
Peru's Exporters Association (Adex) expects the country's handicraft sector to grow at a rate of 20 percent per annum.
