Textile standardization to be carried out during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan (2011-15) period is aimed at making China a textile power in the next 5 to 10 years.

The implementation of textile standardization during the coming period will result in development of five key characteristics. First, it will make standards act as catalyst for economic development, quicken the pace of industrial structural adjustment, and will result in upgradation of the textile industry from a large industry to a strong and powerful industry.

Secondly, the standards will be concerning people's livelihood. They will protect and improve people's earning potential.

Thirdly, the standards will be in concurrence with the current global standards, and it will help China participate in working out international textile standardization.

Fourthly, the standards will pay attention to solving coordination and other similar issues in the inter-industry and industry chain standards. In other words, it will remove overlapping of different standards.

Finally, and most importantly, it will be a transparent and open process in the development of standards.
