Spanish textile industrial output declines

Spanish textile industrial production declined by 4.7 percent year-on-year in July, while the country's total Industrial Production Index (IPI) fell by 5.7 percent during the same month, as per the data of National Statistics Institute (INE).

There has been an improvement in the performance of the textile sector compared to June 2011, when production dipped 11.2 percent year-on-year.

For the January-July period of current year, the average textile production has decreased by 0.4 percent, which is slightly higher than the 0.3 percent average decline recorded by the Spanish industry as a whole.

The production in apparel sector dropped significantly by 19.1 percent in July, compared to the same month in 2010. In June, the drop was 6 percent year-on-year. In January-July period, the apparel sector has declined at an average of 11.4 percent.

During July 2011, the production of knitted garments declined 61.5 percent year-on-year, while yarn production dipped 13.6 percent, and finished textiles 6.5 percent. Manufacturing of fur articles, however, witnessed a 3 percent increase in its annual rate of production.
