Cotton sowing season to begin in Queensland

Cotton sowing season is to begin in Australia with first sowing to take place in central Queensland on Thursday.

The sowing season will begin in the Emerald region for the most common variety of cotton.

Last season, the highest ever sowing of cotton was undertaken in Australia, but the production was less due to flooding in several parts of Queensland, which cut yields.

Compared to last season, it is expected that cotton would be sown on a reduced area this season, but there is a hope that the country might witness one of the largest yields.

Most farmers have already allotted a fair portion of their fields for cotton cultivation and would be sowing seeds as soon as the new season begins.

In terms of soil temperature, the country is moving towards a spell of warmer weather, which would be ideal for growing of cotton, compared to very cold soil temperatures observed during the last few days.
