“The market buzz is all about sustainability” - Clariant top official

Clariant – the Switzerland based specialty chemical company launched more than 30 new products, processes and innovations at ITMA 2011 in Barcelona – Spain. The new products add to an already unique portfolio and confirm Clariant as the innovation company in the textile chemicals industry.

Clariant, which employs around 16,200 employees worldwide and which recorded revenues in excess of CHF 7 billion in 2010, has demonstrated its response to the challenge to make textile processes more sustainable with products, processes and know-how technology that address environmental concerns.

A team member of Fibre2fashion caught up with Mr Jochen Schmidt - Head of Technical Service EMEA (Textile Chemicals) at Clariant at their booth in Barcelona during the event.

When asked to share their experiences at ITMA 2011, which is also called the 'Olympics of the Textile Industry', Mr Schmidt said, “ITMA 2011 so far has been a great success for Clariant as we have been able to prominently launch almost 30 news product, process or effect innovations”.

He added, “The resonance in the media and from our customers has been overwhelming. Our booth was extremely well visited and our daily innovation sessions at 12:00 (noon) underlined Clariant's position as the innovation leader in the textile chemical sector. All of this was rounded up by the positive vibes of the great city of Barcelona. ITMA 2011 definitely will give us a boost”.

When asked about the latest buzz in the global textile sector, he said, “The market buzz is all about sustainability, cost control by the means of efficient solutions, as well as R&D and innovation”.

When quizzed about the textile industry response to the event, he informed, “As Clariant is offering solutions for all of the above mentioned market trends, the response has been very positive from the industry. In the area of sustainability, we launched Pekoflam flame retardant system, or the Foam Eco Care finishing which sets a new benchmark in wrinkle-free finishes by significantly increasing efficiency and improving abrasion resistance.

“Clariant also presented new performance-enhancing products for all the links in the textile chain. The multi-faceted range incorporates auxiliaries for package and beam dyeing, migration inhibitors for continuous dyeing, and disperse dyes with outstanding wet fastness properties.

“Finally – to meet the need for innovative new products – with the launch of the cosmetotextile Quiospheres, a new high tech cosmetic microencapsulation for textile applications with proven benefits providing a feeling of well-being and wellness has found the way to the market. It is a combination of high value cosmetic ingredients and a high tech encapsulation technique”, he explained and summed up this very informative interview.
