The Zamfara Textile Industry located in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State of Nigeria, will be revived, Zamfara State Governor Alhaji Abdul'Aziz Yari Abubakar has said.
During an assessment visit to Zamafara Textile Industry, the Governor said the State government is concerned about the company's situation as at one point in time it was a leading revenue and employment generating firm in the State.
The textile company employed around 2,000 people before it closed down in 2004. Irregular power supply, labour issues, high prices of diesel and need for imported textile inputs were some of the factors that had led to shut down of the factory.
The company was set up under the aegis of the United Nigeria Textile Industry in 1965. The industry was purposefully positioned in Zamfara due to the availability of cotton in the region.
The Governor stated that enhancing economic activities in the State is one of the prime objectives of his administration and assured that the ailing textile industry will be made operational at the earliest.
