The government of Pakistan's Punjab province has urged the Brazilian Government to help it in cotton research and development by providing it with cotton germplasm to test it against Cotton Leaf Curl Virus (CLCV), cotton-picking machine and Bt varieties.

Dr. Noor-ul-Islam, Director General of Ayub Agriculture Research Institute, Faisalabad made this request on behalf of the Punjab government, when a four-member high-level Brazilian delegation consisting of Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) representatives, headed by Bruno de Amorim Maciel, paid a visit to National Agriculture Research Centre.

The Brazilian delegation was updated regarding the different activities undertaken at the Centre during the visit.

The Pakistani side requested the ABC to establish links with concerned institutions to facilitate rural expansion, for which it received positive response from the delegation.

Pakistan showed its willingness to share its cotton germplasm with Brazil, and also to coordinate in acquisition of some state-of-the-art agricultural equipments used in cotton cultivation. For the purpose, it suggested exploring probabilities of association between private sectors of both the nations.

Pakistan even articulated its interest in building capacity of their institutions to set up model units for raising crop productivity of small-scale farmers.
