Pakistan's textile and garment exports are likely to get a boost as the country is all set to ink a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with Indonesia in January 2012.

Pakistan Commerce Secretary Zafar Mahmood, while speaking at the inauguration of the Pak-Indonesia Business Forum (PIBF), said the PTA between Pakistan and Indonesia is believed to help both the nations to enhance their overall trade volumes that are currently around US$ 800 million to 1 billion.

The Commerce Secretary stated that Pakistan Government is also concentrating on enhancing garment and textile exports to Turkey, which has vast untapped market. He added that during his recent visit to Turkey, he had successful talks with concerned Turkish officials regarding a PTA between both countries.

Mr. Mahmood also updated the business community leaders that the Government is expecting to soon receive positive response regarding earning the General System of Preference (GSP) facility in the European Union, which he said would facilitate export of several garment and textile products from Pakistan to the EU nations.

Likewise, he said talks are also going on with India to enhance trade between the two neighbouring nations.

Besides, he also stated that the Government is working hard to provide all possible facilities to the export-oriented industries to help them compete in international market.
