CITI organises Cotton Farmers Meet in Bhilwara

He pointed out that as a result of CITI-CDRA's efforts, Government of India's funds could also be utilized for extending subsidies to cotton farmers in this area of the State. Referring to the capacity expansion that has taken place in the textile industry subsequent to implementation of TUFS, Shri Mukund Choudhary stated that cotton requirement of the industry has gone up and therefore improving and sustaining cotton production has assumed added importance. He appreciated that all the participating organizations were whole heartedly involved in implementing the project which augurs well for both cotton growers and local textile industry. He also appreciated the role of the scientists in implementing the project.

Dr. Grimming, Head of Business Development of Bayer Cropscience, Mumbai explained his organization's involvement in various developmental projects all over the country in general and collaborative project for cotton in Rajasthan for past four years in particular. He reiterated his organization's commitment to continue to work with CITI-CDRA and Government of Rajasthan in improving cotton production and productivity of cotton and thereby help cotton growers in improving their economic conditions.

Shri Suresh Kotak, Chairman, Indian Society for Cotton Improvement, lauded the efforts of CITI-CDRA in bringing about necessary awareness among cotton growers of Rajasthan about the new technologies and their rapid spread. He congratulated the State Government and Bayer Cropscience for their proactive role in implementing the collaborative project for the benefit of cotton growers of the State.

Shri R.L. Nolkha, Chairman, Rajasthan Textile Mills Association in his address expressed happiness that with the efforts of CITI-CDRA and Bayer Cropscience, Mumbai, the area under cotton in these districts has gone up and cotton production improved. The cotton ginning industry in Bhilwara and surrounding districts has benefitted due to the improved availability of cotton. He assured that local textile industry will extend all support to CITI-CDRA in its activities in Rajasthan. A few cotton farmers shared their experience on how they benefitted from the projects being implemented by the CITI-CDRA and Bayer Cropscience, Mumbai in the area.

The farmers who had achieved outstanding yields by participating in the Frontline Demonstration Programme were felicitated by awarding certificates of appreciation. Two scientists from Banswara and Bhilwara were also honored by awarding them certificates of appreciation.
