Pakistan's textile exports grow despite floods in Sindh

Despite being affected by heavy downpour and floods that devastated large volumes of cotton crop in Sindh, Pakistan's textile exports have showed positive growth during the initial three months of the current fiscal ended September 30, 2011.
Textile exports from Pakistan grew at a rate of 10.34 percent to US$ 3.191 billion during July-September this year, over last year's corresponding period's exports worth US$ 2.892 billion, recently released data of the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) stated.
The product-wise break-up of export figures released by FBS show a 668 percent year-on-year rise in raw cotton exports during the review period, while cotton cloth exports grew by 12.05 percent, yarn by 117.46 percent, bedwear by 3.18 percent, knitwear by 6.47 percent, tents by 228.01 percent, art silk and synthetic textiles by 18.63 percent, towels by 6.42 percent, made up articles by 8.97 percent, readymade garments by 15.30 percent and other textile materials by 29.29 percent.
On the negative side, exports of cotton yarn plummeted by 1.47 percent year-on-year, while those of cotton carded witnessed a 97.75 percent fall during the period.
