Textile workers in Nigeria have lauded the decision taken by Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) to distance itself from the Federal Government's proposal to withdraw subsidy on fuel.
Comrade Issa Aremu, Secretary General of National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN), and Vice President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), said the NECA's move has exposed the Government's “insincerity and lack of openness'' on the issue of removal of fuel subsidy.
He said that the NECA is commended for supporting 'good governance' on the issue of removal of subsidy on fuel and its distancing itself from the alleged support of the Organized Private Sector (OPS) on the issue.
He added that the NECA is lauded for standing up to defend the principles of openness, institution building, dialogue and representation, as opposed to the current Government's policy of dictatorship, arm twisting and divide and rule.
Comrade Aremu said the NLC supports discussion and openness as contained in ILO provisions that are ratified by Nigeria.
