The Parliamentary Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises would urge the Central Government to re-introduce Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) for promotion of Khadi.
Devendra Desai, President of Saurashtra Rachanatmak Samiti (SRS), which recently inked an MoU with Arvind Mills for production of Denim khadi, informed that the 15 member Committee headed by its Chairman Tiruchi Siva was on a tour to Gujarat to visit different small and medium enterprises.
Rattansingh Ajnala, a Committee member and a MP from Punjab, said inhabitants of Gujarat have articulated deep interest in production and promotion of khadi and hence the Committee has decided to ask the Centre to re-introduce the SFURTI scheme.
SFURTI was introduced by the Centre in 2007, at a cost of around one billion rupees, for developing about 100 khadi industry clusters. However, the scheme concluded in early 2011.
