Cotton inventories held by textile industries in China declined to 722,500 tons at the end of September 2011, registering a decrease of 193,000 tons year-on-year and 77,000 tons compared to August 2011.
This was the lowest inventory level of cotton since the China Cotton Information Network began conducting a survey in October 2005. In fact, there has been a continuous declining trend in the inventory of cotton materials held by textile industries in China since the high level in December 2010.
Since June this year, the 'de-inventory' or utilization of the inventory by the spinning companies has been fast, but the replacement of the stock by fresh purchase and storage continues to decline. This reflects a lack of confidence regarding future market outlook.
