Andhra Pradesh Minister for Handlooms and Textiles, P Shankar Rao, has directed the officials in the southern Indian State to find suitable site for setting up a textile park in Ponduru village in the coastal district of Srikakulam.
After reviewing the progress of the various welfare schemes in the district, the Minister said the establishment of a textile park in Ponduru would bring greater publicity for khadi produced in the area. It would also generate employment opportunities for many people in the region, he added.
He stated that loans amounting to Rs. 2.97 billion have been waived off by the State government providing a lot of relief to handloom artisans.
The Minister assured that the government's mid-day meal scheme would be extended to handloom workers also.
