Overall foreign trade from Guangdong province, which includes exports and imports from the textile and apparel sector rose in the first nine months of 2011.
According to customs statistics, Guangdong province's textile and clothing foreign trade transactions totaled to US $37.52 billion, up by 14.6 percent year on year.
Of this, its exports touched $31.9 billion, up 17.6 percent, while its imports grew by a mere 0.3 percent $5.62 billion. The trade surplus during the period was $26.28 billion.
However in September, Guangdong's textile and garments witnessed a decline of 12.6 percent from a month ago and was also down 1.1 percent from a year ago.
In September, Guangdong exports from the sector to the EU, US and Japan witnessed declines of 6.9 percent, 0.2 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively, while shipments to Hong Kong saw a growth of 9 percent.
Guangdong province is among China's earliest regions which witnessed development of the textile and apparel industry, and is now one of the foremost developed provinces for the sector in China.
