In the light of reports of both crop loss and record cotton production from various parts of India, the Cotton Advisory Board (CAB) will review the status of the country's cotton production this season at its meeting in Mumbai on November 15.
CAB consists of representatives of the government, cotton growers, traders, exporters and textile industries. At its last meeting in August, the Board had projected India's cotton output for the current season that started on October 1, 2011 at 35.5 million bales (1 bale = 170 kg) compared to cotton production of 32.5 million bales achieved in 2010-11 season.
Speaking on the sidelines of the World Cotton Research Conference, Textiles Commissioner AB Joshi said there are reports of both higher output and crop loss from different places.
He added that there are reports of record output from Punjab, while there is some crop loss in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
