India's jute products exports likely to grow to Rs. 15bn in FY12

India's jute items exports is expected to grow to Rs. 15 billion during the current fiscal, a senior official of the National Jute Board has stated.

After inaugurating an exhibition-cum-sale of jute items in Visakhapatnam, B Narasimhulu, the Marketing Officer of the Board, said during last fiscal the country exported jute goods worth Rs. 14 billion to different countries, and the amount is likely to rise to Rs. 15 billion during this fiscal.

He said the Board functions under the Textiles Ministry, and it encourages small industrialists to engage in production of jute items and provides 20 percent capital expenditure subsidy for jute mills.

The Board also organizes programmes for NGOs and small groups to train people in the art of making different jute products.

The official further said that the Board is also organizing exhibitions at different locations to encourage artisans to set up counters and display their goods free of cost.
