Peruvian exporters should focus on raising export of textiles and garments to Asian markets, according to a professor at the San Marcos National University.
In order to boost their exports to Asian countries, Peruvian exporters should try to understand Asian markets and associate with importers of these countries, Carlos Aquino, Director of the Economic Research Institute at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) said.
He suggested that Peruvian exporters may even encourage Asian firms to set up their manufacturing base in Peru, so that goods produced by these exporters may be exported to their native markets.
He mentioned that the Peruvian exporters should draft proper export offers, bearing in mind that presently 90 percent of Peru's exports to Asian markets constitutes of raw inputs with lesser value addition, and advised them to focus on raising export of high value added items like textiles and garments to these markets.
He said there is a wide difference between the consumer interests and market infrastructure of the Peruvian and Asian markets, and also the selling procedure in Asian markets is quite complex. He thus advised the local exporters to tie up with entrepreneurs from those countries.
