Furthermore, the companies continued their efforts to develop innovative products produced from renewable source materials, to use production processes requiring fewer natural resources, to use clean energy, and to adopt methods for sustainability performance assessment and measurement that promote eco-innovation and sustainable competitiveness.

RadiciGroup is an industrial multinational with a vertically integrated nylon production chain. And it is precisely on the sustainability of this production chain that the Group intends to focus: sustainability all along the chain, from polymerization to plastics compounding and synthetic fibres manufacturing.

During 2010, while the international macroeconomic situation continued to recover, growth remained fragile because of the financial and industrial crisis that hit world markets. In this context RadiciGroup was ble to achieve extremely positive results in its core businesses.

Group consolidated sales totalled EUR 1.162 billion, a 50% increase over financial year 2009 (+26% over 2008 and +7% compared to 2007). In the Chemicals Business Area, RadiciGroup grew more than 60% and, in Plastics, almost 80%. The Fibres Business Area also recorded an upturn in growth of +38%.

The Group increased its market share in Europe, where it registered its highest sales, as well as in Asia, North America and South America. In North America, in particular, RadiciGroup strengthened its market position following the January 2010 acquisition of American compounder Michael Day.

During 2010 RadiciGroup invested about EUR 2.9 million on health, safety and the environment compared to EUR 2.5 million in 2009. The number of hours of in-house training and education on these specific topics rose in all Group companies.

The number of 1- to 3-day injuries (16) remained unchanged compared to 2009, and so did the number of workers' compensation commuting injuries (5). The number of workers' compensation injuries (>3 days) increased slightly from 99 to 101. The environmental data for 2010 were compared to data from 2008, which is the latest year that can be considered comparable in terms of production.

Discharges of heavy metals to water dropped from 1.8 tons in 2008 to 0.9 tons in 2010. Emissions to air of nitrous oxide (the main gas responsible for the greenhouse effect) from adipic acid, nitric acid and cyclohexanol production decreased by almost 18% – from 850,038 tons in 2008 to 698,895 tons in 2010. Emissions of carbon dioxide from gas fuels dropped by about 7%.

Continuing its tradition of sponsoring events and activities in the social, cultural and sports fields, in 2010 RadiciGroup gave its support to several institutions and associations working in the communities hosting its companies: educational institutions, social and charitable organizations, sports clubs, and organizations involved in health, safety, prevention and the environment. Particularly important for RadiciGroup is the relationship with representative industry bodies. As of today, the various Group companies are members and supporters of 38 associations.
