Tirupur 'Knits Capital of India' gets SGS testing facility

SGS India, a leader in the Inspection, Verification, Testing and Certification services, announced that the company recently inaugurated a new lab in Tirupur to serve the knit city's textile and home textile manufacturers, exporters, buyers and domestic retailers.

The new world class testing facility located at College Road was inaugurated by Padma Shri Mr. A. Sakthivel, President of the Tirupur Exporters Association. The lab will serve clients with its enhanced restricted substance testing capabilities to meet requirements of International and Indian standards.

Product safety, quality and compliance requirements of REACH, CPSIA and Organic Cotton have increased the chemical test parameters in the textile supply chain. The new state-of-the-art facility is equipped to address these sustainability requirements of the garment industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. G.Sudesh Kumar, Business Director, Consumer Testing Services, SGS India said, “It has been our endeavor to be in close proximity to our customer's businesses. A lab in Tirupur was the next logical step towards enhancing SGS India's ever increasing footprint in India.

Apart from the regular softlines testing, this lab will also enable manufacturers to launch products complying with the ever stringent REACH guidelines.” He added, “SGS India's Tirupur lab will enable Tirupur to play an important role in the global textile market.”
