Several batik artists, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts who were eager to learn the present-day batik making technique visited the three-day Kuala Lumpur International Batik Convention and Exhibition 2011 (KLIB 2011) which was held from December 9-11, 2011.

The expo was organized by Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia (Penyayang) in association with the Tourism Ministry. It was aimed at developing a global network of batik enthusiasts and strengthening trade ties with other batik-producing economies.

Various present day techniques and technologies used in batik production, and promotional strategies to boost the products as well as the industry were all discussed during the convention alongside the future of the industry.

The convention was attended by 19 batik experts from across the globe, including textile entrepreneurs and handicraft industry policymakers.

KLIB offered entrepreneurs and enthusiasts, who were eager to explore the batik industry, with a chance to learn much about the industry, as several new kinds of wax and environmental-friendly dyes were showcased at the expo.

Batik artisans from Kelantan and Terengganu also showcased their batik prints at the expo.

The expo had a batik handicraft corner where samples of batik motifs were put on display, which proved to be of great help for those interested in venturing in the batik industry.

Some of the items showcased at KLIB 2011 were identified as having great potential to be souvenir items.
