Sri Lanka's Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced that it will launch an initiative to save energy in industries, including those belonging to the textile sector.

To be commenced using the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, the initiative is intended to help local companies to enhance their industry grade energy efficiencies and thereby, to bring down their cost of production by reducing energy usage.

Initially, the US$ 39,500 project targets to achieve a 10 percent reduction in industrial energy consumption.

In the first stage of the Energy Efficiency Improvement Programme for Selected Industries, sixteen Sri Lankan companies, including Brandix Textile Private Limited, will undergo energy audits from January 2012.

The energy audits will be conducted by Metropolitan Engineering, a subsidiary of Metropolitan Group. Post audit, a report will be prepared for each factory that will include recommendations for saving energy.
