When it comes to future developments, Josef Kölker, one of the managing directors at Wülfing, is optimistic: "Naturally, we manufacturers of domestic textiles are affected by trends just like the fashion industry. It's a real challenge not only to adapt to new trends as quickly as possible but – whenever possible - to anticipate them."

This is why nowadays Wülfing makes bed-linen in all the popular bedding fabrics. It has also expanded its range from purely bedding to household textiles, for example offering high quality table linen. Another and everexpanding mainstay of its business that Wülfing has built up is to offer contract services for finishing, weaving and manufacturing over-sized bed-linen.

Environmentally friendly products
Best possible product quality - that's the standard Wülfing sets itself and consistently meets. As early as 1993 – just one year after the establishment of the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 – the company started to have its products endorsed by independent test institutes to prove that the textiles were not harmful to health, in accordance with the requirements of the OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

Now all Wülfing products are certified under the OEKO-TEX Standard 100, with all products in the "Dormisette Baby Care" range for babies and many items in the "Dormisette Protect & Care" collection meeting the strictest human ecology requirements for certification in Product Class I (baby articles).

Josef Kölker is sure that his customers appreciate being able to rely on feeling safe and comfortable, especially when it comes to "a good night's sleep": "For our customers and for ourselves, the certificates are an extra guarantee of quality which ties in perfectly with our corporate culture." As well as striving for best product quality and showing social responsibility in its treatment of its workforce, Wülfing also believes continuous improvement of its production processes is very important.

By investing in innovative and environmentally friendly technologies at all stages of production, it has significantly improved both its efficiency and its competitiveness. "For us, these new, ultra-modern machines aren't just more investment, they mean an increase in capacity and greater flexibility in production, and, not least, they also have beneficial effects for the environment," says Johannes Dowe.

The latest project is to install a more effective extraction system in the weaving plant, to minimise dust and lint pollution. During the obligatory on-site monitoring that was introduced in 2010, auditors from the Hohenstein Textile Testing Institute were impressed by the exemplary quality control procedures. These include extra projects such as measures to recover heat or avoid badly contaminated waste water, which all contribute to greater sustainability at Wülfing.
