A group of Sri Lankan indigenous people have received training in handloom weaving.

The training was provided at the Department of Textile Industry's Handloom Training Centre that was opened at the Adivasi Heritage Centre in Dambana, a remote jungle village of indigenous people, situated in Badulla district, about 300 km from the country's capital Colombo.

The people belonging to the Adivasi community were imparted training in handloom weaving to enable them to become self-employed.

The successful trainees will be presented with a stock of threads at a ceremony to be held on January 3, 2012 at the Adivasi Heritage Centre in Dambana.

Uruwarige Wanniyela Aththo, the leader of the Adivasi community, is likely to grace the occasion.
