China's domestic production of PTA has rapidly increased in recent times. Monthly PTA production which stood at around 1.20 million tons in 2010 has risen to 1.40 million tons in 2011.

On an average, China also imports 530,000 tons per month, which makes the effective supply of PTA at 1.90-2.00 million tons per month in domestic market.

Annual production is expected to be about 16.40 million tons in 2011, up 15 percent compared with 2010.

China's PTA industry will usher in a new round of expansion peak in 2012. Domestic PTA production capacity is expected to increase from 10.3 million to 21 million tons.

New PTA production capacity will witness concentrative increase in the third and fourth quarters in 2012, so supply pressure will rise in the period as well as in 2013.

China's PTA supply will shift to a situation of surplus in domestic market starting from the second half of 2012, if imports do not fall significantly.
