UAE, Germany top importers of Persian carpets

United Arab Emirates and Germany turned out to be the leading importers of hand-made carpets from Iran during the initial eight months of the current Iranian calendar year that started on March 21, 2011.
Lebanon, Sweden, Italy, Britain, Japan, Qatar, Canada and Switzerland were the other leading importers of Persian carpets during the period.
During the eight-month period, Iran exported 4,058 tons of hand-made carpets worth US$ 326.5 million to 77 countries.
Iran's carpet exports for the current year are expected to register a year-on-year rise of 12 percent.
During last calendar year, the country exported around US$ 556 million worth of carpets, which was 12 percent more than its previous year's exports in terms of value. The exports showed an increase of around four percent in terms of volume.
