Textile and apparel companies from Malaysia are missing a good opportunity to increase their exports by not displaying their items at international trade fairs.

While several companies from Asia participated and showcased their products at the recently concluded HeimTextil Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, Malaysian enterprises were absent at the fair.

HeimTextil Fair is the world's largest trade fair for home textile sector and buyers from every corner of the world visited it.

In recent times, Malaysian textile and garment exports have registered a strong growth. The country exported textile and clothing items worth 8.455 billion Malaysian ringgits in 2010. In the first 11 months of 2011, it exported goods worth 9.872 billion ringgits.

Malaysia's textile and garment exports to Germany rose significantly to 404 million ringgits in 2011, as against exports of 282 million ringgits achieved during 2010, showing an increase of 43.1 percent.

To sustain such huge growth, it is essential for Malaysian textile and apparel companies to participate in international trade exhibitions that act as a good medium for promotion of their products.
