Japanese imports of naphtha fell massively in January from a year earlier and in double digits from a month ago, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
Imports of naphtha in the previous month, which is mainly used to produce ethylene, fell to 961,119 tons, down 37 percent from January 2011.
When compared to its previous month, naphtha imports also dropped 13.49 percent from 1.11 million tons in December 2011.
In January, the value of imports stood at US $877.31 million against $997.60 million in December.
