Exports of textiles and garments from the West Java region of Indonesia were worth US$ 6.18 million in 2011, showing a rise of 9.32 percent against US$ 5.65 million of exports achieved in 2010.
The textile and garment exports accounted for 26.42 percent of the region's total non-oil exports of US$ 23.40 million in 2011.
Around 60 percent of total textiles produced in Indonesia are manufactured in the West Java region, and hence the sector has always received special attention from the West Java provincial government.
In West Java, textile and garment industries are spread across the cities of Jakarta, Bandung, Sumedang, Bogor, Cirebon, Sukabumi and Purwakarta.
The textile sector of the region is a leading employer and foreign exchange generator for the country, and has also contributed in the development of the region's economy.
